Bajaj Auto Evaluates South India Plant as EV Demand Grows

Bajaj Auto is reportedly exploring the possibility of setting up a new manufacturing facility in South India, with Tamil Nadu and Telangana emerging as the leading contenders. While the company has not officially confirmed the project, industry reports suggest the proposed plant would strengthen Bajaj Auto’s expanding electric vehicle (EV) business and support future domestic and export demand.

According to reports, the new facility could manufacture products including the Chetak electric scooter, electric three-wheelers, future electric motorcycles and selected internal combustion engine (ICE) models. However, Bajaj Auto has not independently confirmed the plant’s location, investment value, production capacity or timeline.

The reported expansion comes as Bajaj Auto continues to strengthen its position in India’s growing electric two-wheeler market. The company’s Chetak electric scooter crossed 7,27,779 cumulative retail sales by May 2026, while FY2026 sales reached 2,98,436 units, giving Bajaj an estimated 20–22% share of the country’s electric two-wheeler market.

Both shortlisted states offer distinct advantages. Tamil Nadu is one of India’s largest automotive manufacturing hubs, producing around 36% of the country’s two-wheelers and 25% of passenger vehicles, supported by an extensive supplier network and major ports.

Telangana, meanwhile, has introduced policies aimed at attracting EV and battery manufacturers through incentives such as capital subsidies, SGST reimbursement and support for charging infrastructure.

Industry reports have also claimed that Maharashtra owes Bajaj Auto more than ₹70 crore in pending EV subsidy reimbursements. This information has not been independently verified by Bajaj Auto.

If the proposed investment proceeds, it could further strengthen India’s EV manufacturing ecosystem, expand production capacity and improve export competitiveness. Until an official announcement is made, however, details regarding the project’s scale, investment and implementation schedule remain unconfirmed.

ವರದಿಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಹೊಸ ಘಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಚೇತಕ್ ಎಲೆಕ್ಟ್ರಿಕ್ ಸ್ಕೂಟರ್, ಎಲೆಕ್ಟ್ರಿಕ್ ತ್ರಿಚಕ್ರ ವಾಹನಗಳು, ಭವಿಷ್ಯದ ಎಲೆಕ್ಟ್ರಿಕ್ ಮೋಟಾರ್‌ಸೈಕಲ್‌ಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಕೆಲವು ಆಂತರಿಕ ದಹನ ಎಂಜಿನ್ (ICE) ಮಾದರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಉತ್ಪಾದಿಸುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ ಇದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಘಟಕದ ಸ್ಥಳ, ಹೂಡಿಕೆ ಮೊತ್ತ, ಉತ್ಪಾದನಾ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ ಅಥವಾ ಯೋಜನೆಯ ವೇಳಾಪಟ್ಟಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬಜಾಜ್ ಆಟೋ ಇನ್ನೂ ಅಧಿಕೃತ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ನೀಡಿಲ್ಲ.

ಭಾರತದ ವೇಗವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಎಲೆಕ್ಟ್ರಿಕ್ ದ್ವಿಚಕ್ರ ವಾಹನ ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಜಾಜ್ ಆಟೋ ತನ್ನ ಸ್ಥಾನವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಬಲಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ವಿಸ್ತರಣೆಯ ವರದಿಗಳು ಹೊರಬಿದ್ದಿವೆ. ಕಂಪನಿಯ ಚೇತಕ್ ಎಲೆಕ್ಟ್ರಿಕ್ ಸ್ಕೂಟರ್ ಮೇ 2026ರ ವೇಳೆಗೆ ಒಟ್ಟು 7,27,779 ರಿಟೇಲ್ ಮಾರಾಟಗಳನ್ನು ದಾಟಿದ್ದು, FY2026ರಲ್ಲಿ 2,98,436 ಯುನಿಟ್‌ಗಳ ಮಾರಾಟ ದಾಖಲಿಸಿದೆ. ಇದರಿಂದ ಭಾರತದ ಎಲೆಕ್ಟ್ರಿಕ್ ದ್ವಿಚಕ್ರ ವಾಹನ ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು 20–22% ಪಾಲನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಅಂದಾಜಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಎರಡೂ ರಾಜ್ಯಗಳು ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಆದ ವಿಶೇಷ ಬಲಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿವೆ. ತಮಿಳುನಾಡು ಭಾರತದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ವಾಹನ ಉತ್ಪಾದನಾ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿದ್ದು, ದೇಶದ ಸುಮಾರು 36% ದ್ವಿಚಕ್ರ ವಾಹನಗಳು ಮತ್ತು 25% ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಕ ಕಾರುಗಳನ್ನು ಉತ್ಪಾದಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಬಲಿಷ್ಠ ಪೂರೈಕೆದಾರರ ಜಾಲ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಬಂದರುಗಳ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯವೂ ಇದೆ.

ಇನ್ನೊಂದೆಡೆ, ತೆಲಂಗಾಣ ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ಎಲೆಕ್ಟ್ರಿಕ್ ವಾಹನ ಮತ್ತು ಬ್ಯಾಟರಿ ಉತ್ಪಾದನಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೂಡಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಆಕರ್ಷಿಸಲು ಮೂಲಧನ ಸಹಾಯಧನ, SGST ಮರುಪಾವತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಚಾರ್ಜಿಂಗ್ ಮೂಲಸೌಕರ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಹಲವು ಉತ್ತೇಜನಕಾರಿ ನೀತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಜಾರಿಗೆ ತಂದಿದೆ.

ಮಹಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ ಸರ್ಕಾರದಿಂದ ಬಜಾಜ್ ಆಟೋಗೆ ₹70 ಕೋಟಿಗೂ ಅಧಿಕ ಮೌಲ್ಯದ ಬಾಕಿ EV ಸಬ್ಸಿಡಿ ಮರುಪಾವತಿ ದೊರಕಬೇಕಿದೆ ಎಂಬ ವರದಿಗಳೂ ಪ್ರಕಟವಾಗಿವೆ. ಆದರೆ ಈ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಬಜಾಜ್ ಆಟೋ ಸ್ವತಂತ್ರವಾಗಿ ದೃಢಪಡಿಸಿಲ್ಲ.
