India’s automotive component industry delivered another year of strong growth in FY2025-26, with total industry turnover increasing 12.7% year-on-year to ₹7.60 lakh crore (around USD 85.9 billion). The growth was primarily driven by robust domestic vehicle production, higher supplies to vehicle manufacturers, expanding aftermarket demand and steady export performance, according to the latest Industry Performance Review released by the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA).

OEM Demand Continues to Drive Growth
Supplies to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) emerged as the biggest growth engine during the year, rising 16.3% to ₹6.63 lakh crore. Strong production across passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and two-wheelers supported component demand, while manufacturers continued investing in capacity expansion, localisation and advanced manufacturing technologies.
The domestic aftermarket also remained healthy, growing 9% to ₹1.08 lakh crore. Demand was supported by India’s expanding vehicle population, increasing used-car sales, consumers opting for larger vehicles and the continued formalisation of the vehicle repair and maintenance ecosystem.
Exports Rise, But Imports Grow Faster
India’s auto component exports increased 5% to approximately USD 24 billion (₹2.12 lakh crore) despite a challenging global business environment. Europe recorded the strongest export growth, helped by higher sourcing from European vehicle manufacturers and optimism surrounding the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement.
Engine components along with drive transmission and steering systems accounted for more than half of India’s exports during the year.
However, imports expanded even faster, rising around 13% to USD 25.4 billion (₹2.24 lakh crore). As a result, India’s auto component trade balance shifted to a trade deficit of approximately USD 1.37 billion. China, Japan and Germany remained the largest sources of imported automotive components, particularly for advanced technologies and specialised parts.
EV Components Continue to Expand
Electric vehicle components, excluding lithium-ion batteries, accounted for 4.6% of domestic OEM supplies, indicating the industry’s gradual transition towards electrification. While conventional powertrain components continue to dominate production, suppliers are steadily increasing investments in EV-related technologies as demand grows.
Opportunities and Challenges Ahead
ACMA noted that India’s auto component industry has more than doubled in size over the past five years, recording a 17% compound annual growth rate (CAGR). Growth is expected to be supported by:
Rising domestic vehicle demand
Infrastructure development
Expansion of free trade agreements
Increasing localisation
New investments in manufacturing and technology
Growth in electric mobility
At the same time, the industry continues to face several challenges, including geopolitical uncertainties, higher logistics and insurance costs, raw material price volatility, shortages of rare earth magnets, labour availability issues and evolving global trade policies.
Overall, FY26 demonstrated the resilience of India’s auto component sector. While strong domestic demand continues to fuel expansion, reducing dependence on imported high-value components and improving export competitiveness will be crucial for strengthening India’s position as a global automotive manufacturing hub.
