The Supreme Court has directed the Centre, MoRTH and IRDAI to develop a “No Insurance, No Fuel” pilot project to improve compliance with mandatory third-party motor insurance. The proposal aims to reduce the number of uninsured vehicles, strengthen road safety and ensure better financial protection for road accident victims.

The Supreme Court of India has extended the mandatory third-party insurance period for new vehicles. New private cars must now carry four years of third-party insurance, while new two-wheelers require six years, aiming to improve insurance compliance and provide better financial protection for road accident victims.
