Older Cars to Get Free Rubber Component Replacement if Damaged by E20 Fuel: Gadkari

The Government of India has directed vehicle manufacturers to replace certain rubber components in older petrol cars if they are found to have deteriorated due to the use of E20 petrol. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said the instruction applies to older vehicles where ethanol exposure may affect specific fuel-system parts such as washers, seals and similar rubber components during regular servicing.

The clarification comes amid growing public debate over E20 fuel compatibility. Gadkari reiterated that the government has found no evidence that E20 petrol causes engine damage and challenged claims suggesting otherwise. According to him, the issue is limited to minor wear of certain rubber components used in older vehicles that were originally designed for lower ethanol blends.

Industry testing has shown that newer vehicles designed and certified for E20 are equipped with ethanol-resistant materials and are not expected to face such issues. Owners of older petrol vehicles may also experience a slight reduction in fuel economy of around 3–3.5%, which is a normal characteristic of ethanol-blended fuel because of its lower energy content.

The government’s latest assurance aims to address consumer concerns while continuing the nationwide rollout of E20 petrol as part of India’s strategy to reduce crude oil imports, lower emissions and increase the use of domestically produced biofuels.

E20 ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್ ಎಂಜಿನ್‌ಗೆ ಹಾನಿ ಉಂಟುಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ವೈಜ್ಞಾನಿಕ ಸಾಕ್ಷ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಗಡ್ಕರಿ ಪುನರುಚ್ಚರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಎಂಜಿನ್‌ಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಪಟ್ಟದ್ದಲ್ಲ; ಕಡಿಮೆ ಎಥನಾಲ್ ಮಿಶ್ರಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸಗೊಳಿಸಲಾದ ಹಳೆಯ ವಾಹನಗಳಲ್ಲಿನ ಕೆಲವು ರಬ್ಬರ್ ಭಾಗಗಳು ಕಾಲಕ್ರಮೇಣ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಬೇಗ ಸವೆದುಹೋಗುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆಯಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

E20 ಹೊಂದಾಣಿಕೆಗೆ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸಗೊಳಿಸಿ ಪ್ರಮಾಣೀಕರಿಸಲಾದ ಹೊಸ ವಾಹನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎಥನಾಲ್‌ಗೆ ಪ್ರತಿರೋಧಕ ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಬಳಸಲಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಇಂತಹ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳು ಉಂಟಾಗುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ವಾಹನ ತಯಾರಕರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. E20 ಬಳಕೆಯಿಂದ ಹಳೆಯ ವಾಹನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು 3–3.5% ಮೈಲೇಜ್ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ ಇದು ಎಥನಾಲ್‌ನ ಸ್ವಭಾವಿಕ ಗುಣಲಕ್ಷಣವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಯಾವುದೇ ದೋಷವಲ್ಲ.
