AIS to Build ₹2,700 Crore Float Glass Facility to Boost Auto Manufacturing

Asahi India Glass (AIS) has announced an investment of ₹2,700 crore to establish a new float glass manufacturing plant at Soniyana, Rajasthan, marking one of the company’s largest domestic investments. The facility is expected to strengthen the country’s automotive glass supply chain while reducing dependence on imports.

The new plant will manufacture high-quality float glass used in automotive windshields, side windows and rear glass, along with products for the architectural and industrial sectors. Rising demand from passenger vehicles, electric vehicles and infrastructure projects has driven AIS to expand its production capacity.

AIS said the investment aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative by increasing domestic manufacturing capabilities and supporting localisation. The project is also expected to generate significant employment opportunities during both construction and operations while strengthening the country’s position as a global automotive manufacturing hub.

Once operational, the plant will improve the availability of locally produced automotive-grade glass, helping vehicle manufacturers secure a more reliable supply chain and reduce logistics costs. The expansion is also expected to support future demand from advanced vehicles equipped with larger panoramic glass roofs, ADAS-compatible windshields and premium glazing solutions.

ಅಸಾಹಿ ಇಂಡಿಯಾ ಗ್ಲಾಸ್ (AIS) ರಾಜಸ್ಥಾನದ ಸೋನಿಯಾನಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸ ಫ್ಲೋಟ್ ಗ್ಲಾಸ್ ಉತ್ಪಾದನಾ ಘಟಕ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲು ₹2,700 ಕೋಟಿ ಹೂಡಿಕೆ ಮಾಡುವುದಾಗಿ ಘೋಷಿಸಿದೆ. ಇದು ಕಂಪನಿಯ ದೇಶೀಯ ಮಟ್ಟದ ಅತಿದೊಡ್ಡ ಹೂಡಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಘಟಕವು ವಾಹನ ಗಾಜಿನ (Automotive Glass) ಪೂರೈಕೆ ಸರಪಳಿಯನ್ನು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಬಲಪಡಿಸುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಆಮದು ಮೇಲಿನ ಅವಲಂಬನೆಯನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡುವ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಿದೆ.

ಹೊಸ ಘಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಹನಗಳ ವಿಂಡ್‌ಶೀಲ್ಡ್‌, ಸೈಡ್ ಗ್ಲಾಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ರಿಯರ್ ಗ್ಲಾಸ್ ತಯಾರಿಕೆಗೆ ಬಳಸುವ ಉನ್ನತ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದ ಫ್ಲೋಟ್ ಗ್ಲಾಸ್ ಉತ್ಪಾದಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಹಾಗೂ ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳಿಗೆ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿರುವ ಗಾಜಿನ ಉತ್ಪನ್ನಗಳನ್ನೂ ತಯಾರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಕ ವಾಹನಗಳು, ಎಲೆಕ್ಟ್ರಿಕ್ ವಾಹನಗಳು (EVs) ಮತ್ತು ಮೂಲಸೌಕರ್ಯ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳಿಂದ ಹೆಚ್ಚುತ್ತಿರುವ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಗಮನದಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು AIS ತನ್ನ ಉತ್ಪಾದನಾ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವನ್ನು ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಈ ಹೂಡಿಕೆಯು ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ‘ಮೇಕ್ ಇನ್ ಇಂಡಿಯಾ’ ಯೋಜನೆಗೆ ಅನುಗುಣವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ದೇಶೀಯ ಉತ್ಪಾದನಾ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯೀಕರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಉತ್ತೇಜನ ನೀಡಲಿದೆ ಎಂದು AIS ತಿಳಿಸಿದೆ. ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಹಂತದಿಂದ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಚರಣೆ ಆರಂಭವಾಗುವವರೆಗೆ ಈ ಯೋಜನೆಯು ಗಣನೀಯ ಉದ್ಯೋಗಾವಕಾಶಗಳನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಜಾಗತಿಕ ವಾಹನ ಉತ್ಪಾದನಾ ಕೇಂದ್ರವಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಬಲಪಡಿಸುವ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಿದೆ.

ಘಟಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಾರಂಭವಾದ ಬಳಿಕ ದೇಶೀಯವಾಗಿ ಉತ್ಪಾದನೆಯಾಗುವ ವಾಹನ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದ ಗಾಜಿನ ಲಭ್ಯತೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಲಿದ್ದು, ವಾಹನ ತಯಾರಕರಿಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ವಿಶ್ವಾಸಾರ್ಹ ಪೂರೈಕೆ ಸರಪಳಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಲಾಜಿಸ್ಟಿಕ್ಸ್ ವೆಚ್ಚದ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನ ದೊರೆಯಲಿದೆ. ಭವಿಷ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಪ್ಯಾನೊರಮಿಕ್ ಗ್ಲಾಸ್ ರೂಫ್‌, ADAS-ಸಹಾಯಕ ವಿಂಡ್‌ಶೀಲ್ಡ್‌ಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೀಮಿಯಂ ಗ್ಲೇಜಿಂಗ್ ಪರಿಹಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ವಾಹನಗಳ ಹೆಚ್ಚುತ್ತಿರುವ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಪೂರೈಸುವಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಈ ವಿಸ್ತರಣೆ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸುವ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಿದೆ.
